Meet Your Principal
Dale Bannon Metzger III

Mr. Metzger is a native of Charleston and earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston and his master’s degree from The Citadel. Prior to entering the field of education, Metzger worked as a journeyman pipefitter at the former Charleston Naval Shipyard. This experience in the industrial field gives Metzger a unique perspective with regard to preparing students for the workforce in a skilled trade, along with preparing students for post-secondary educational opportunities.
Before becoming principal of the West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies, he had joined the Garrett Academy staff in 2014 as the assistant principal and worked with grades nine through 11 and eventually became principal of Garrett. Prior to his time at Garrett, Metzger served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and associate principal at West Ashley High School from 2005-2014. Before coming to CCSD ,he worked as a Mathematics teacher in Berkeley County.
Metzger has a wife Theresa and three boys. In his spare time, he serves as a South Carolina High School League Softball and Wrestling Official.
Meet Your Assistant Principal
Jason McDermott

Mr. Jason McDermott joins WACAS with 18 years of experience in education, including service at both the middle and high school levels, as well as 25 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from Keene State College and a Master’s degree in Administration from Southern Wesleyan University.
Mr. McDermott has served in educational leadership roles for the past five years as both an Assistant Principal and Assistant Athletic Director. His experience in school administration has focused on fostering positive school culture, supporting student success, and promoting academic and extracurricular excellence.
Mr. McDermott returns to the Charleston County School District, where he previously served at both Wando High School and Lucy Beckham High School as an Honors and AP Human Geography teacher.
He resides in West Ashley with his wife, Maggie, and their three pets: Ruby, Sadie, and Mango.
