Meet Your Principal
Dale Bannon Metzger III
Mr. Metzger is a native of Charleston and earned his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston and his master’s degree from The Citadel. Prior to entering the field of education, Metzger worked as a journeyman pipefitter at the former Charleston Naval Shipyard. This experience in the industrial field gives Metzger a unique perspective with regard to preparing students for the workforce in a skilled trade, along with preparing students for post-secondary educational opportunities.
Before becoming principal of the West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies, he had joined the Garrett Academy staff in 2014 as the assistant principal and worked with grades nine through 11 and eventually became principal of Garrett. Prior to his time at Garrett, Metzger served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and associate principal at West Ashley High School from 2005-2014. Before coming to CCSD ,he worked as a Mathematics teacher in Berkeley County.
Metzger has a wife Theresa and three boys. In his spare time, he serves as a South Carolina High School League Softball and Wrestling Official.
Meet Your Interim Assistant Principal
Robert Woods
Robert Woods has nearly 20 years of experience in education and counseling. He holds degrees from Sacred Heart University and The Citadel and is certified in both School Counseling (Grades 6-12) and School Leadership (Grades k-12) in addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Mr. Woods began his career with Charleston County School District in 2008 as a Professional School Counselor at McClellanville Middle school. Since then, he has served in various roles at Morningside Middle School, the CCSD Office of Human Resources, and James Island Charter High School. He joined the team at WACAS prior to the school’s opening in 2021 and was names the school’s teacher of the year for 2021-2022 academic year.
Mr. Woods is excited to take on the role of Assistant Principal at WACAS, where he looks forward to continuing his commitment to student growth, development, and support.
Mr. Woods and his wife Abby have four children who all attend CCSD elementary, middle, and high schools. Outside of school he enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family and their dogs.
