WACAS Cell Phone Policy
The West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies - Cell Phone Policy
Policy JICJ- Prohibition of Personal Electronic Devices State Proviso 1.103
In order to comply with new state legislation, General Appropriations Bill – 5100 of 2024, beginning January 6th, 2025, The West Ashley Center for Advanced Studies will be a Cell-Phone Free Zone.
Students are expected to maintain their phones, powered off and stored out-of-sight, throughout the school day. While in class, students will be asked to place their phone in a YONDR security bag, for the duration of the class period. Students will place their phones inside the security bag and maintain possession of their phones at all times.
The YONDR bag simply restricts access to the phone and allows students and staff to focus on their course curriculum without distractions.
Teachers will open and collect the bags at the close of the class period. Students will be expected to again store their phones out-of-sight until they exit our facility. If a student is seen using their phone during class, they will be given a YONDR bag and asked to comply with the posted policy.
The school’s administrative team will monitor transitions and remind students to leave their phones out-of-sight while in the hallways.
Failure to do so will result in a disciplinary referral to the school’s administrative team.
Repeated offences will result in a student-parent-administration conference where we will enter into a cell-phone action plan, in lieu of suspension.
